Site-subject
This is the website of the Ph.D. program in "Telematics and the Information Society (TIS)" administered by the University of Florence. This is a largely interdisciplinary, three-year course which began in 1996 and has been continuously evolving ever since.
Currently, this doctorate operates as an independent Ph.D. program for the 2nd and 3rd year of the study-course, while it has become a branch of the new Ph.D. program in "Information Technology, Systems and Telecommunications", which began on 01/01/2011, because of a transient general reorganization of degree courses currently in progress at the University of Florence.
Site-characteristics
The site provides, in the first place, both public information, and specific support for people or those stakeholders who perform activities within the current institutional framework of the program (e.g., students, teachers, advisers, and external co-operating structures).
The experience meanwhile gained since the doctorate program’s initial conception has highlighted the importance of extending the network of individuals linked to the TIS Ph.D. program, as a result of the specific nature of the degree program. This derives from the interdisciplinary and growing importance of the TIS program issues in the scientific, social and economic fields.
Thus, the site as a whole aims to support the creation and cooperative development of a wider scientific community, the "TIS people", linked through the TIS Ph.D. program.
This site, therefore, globally provides targeted info-services for alumni, individual experts and referees of organizations, that have worked and/or provided support for the program, as well as for experts and organizations that express an interest in the doctoral program and participation in related activities.
Visitors to the site, while having access to a public section, if interested, may require access to the aforementioned services by requesting admission to the "TIS people" community.
